Life Coaching for People assisted by Horses
Individual sessions enable a teen or adult to interact with the horse on the ground with a facilitator guiding the process. The sessions last from 1 -1/2 to 2 hours. There is a follow-up phone session included. Sessions are held on Tuesday through Saturday. Note that is if rains, the session can be rescheduled or held at another location with a covered arena. During the summer it is best to schedule a session in the early morning or later afternoon to avoid the heat of the day. The cost for a session is $85.

Coaching with Horses teaches people to sense into their body and focus on the sensations and feelings as a source of information about themselves as opposed to using only our mental capacities. Learning to utilize our innate emotional intelligence and agility is the main focus of the program. Our emotions are a gateway to our deep inner self; our innermost needs and desires. Our current society is too focused on mental acuity and prowess and as a result, many of us are cut off from the emotional aspect of our being. This ultimately leads to stress, dysfunction, or even a breakdown of some kind.
Before each session, the coach will instruct you in an exercise to become more centered and aware of your body. You will be asked some questions to determine what you’d like to work on during the session. The coach will suggest some activities with the horse which may include; reflective round pen session, active round pen session, centered grooming and active arena session.
You will need to sign a release form required by NC. You can fill it out when you get to the farm or download and complete the attached form and bring it with you: Liability and Photo release horse

Additional Background on Coaching with Horses
It is a unique way of coaching clients, while interacting with horses, where they can explore new ways of expanding and creating a way of living that is in harmony with their heart’s desire. During and Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) session, you may experience, in a positive, non-judgmental manner, a new awareness of certain beliefs, behaviors, and/or habits that the horse’s nature brings to the surface. Horses are honest and forgiving, sentient beings. As prey animals, their survival depends on their ability to live together in harmony, in a constant state of awareness of what is happening in the present moment around them. As we explore these new levels of awareness, a sense of trust and respect is reached with the horse and an inspirational relationship is created. Through coaching conversations, we are able to gain insight, clarity and direction on ways to incorporate this new awareness into our every day life. Through wisdom of horses, we begin building authentic communities and developing nurturing relationships with honesty and integrity.
During a Coaching session, humans and horses are engaging together for greater levels of awareness and learning. Many times present behavior, past memories or events may surface and a deeper level of understanding can be achieved by focusing forward. Coaching conversations are concentrated on staying present; who, how and what actions are going to be taken to achieve the heart’s desire? In the security and presence of the horse, people experience how to sit with uncomfortable emotions and listen to the messages they hold. These messages quickly integrate that forward momentum and the ability to choose goals and actions engage their personal power. Transformational change occurs when the whole being (mind, body and spirit) is engaged and integrated.
Other Names for Coaching with Horses
The Coaching with Horses is a general name that can be used in place of some very specific modality names where people are interacting with horses with the help of a facilitator to move forward in a more positive manner. Some of the names are Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), Equine Guided Education (EGE), Equine Assisted Coaching (EAC), Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) and Equine Experiential Learning (EEL).
This can be very confusing because there is no overall certification organization for this type of work because it is relatively new and constantly unfolding.
Why are Horses called great Teachers?
Horses live in the present moment, utilizing all their senses; seeing, hearing, feeling with their gut, communicating with their body movements to other herd members. They don’t worry about what happened yesterday, this afternoon or tomorrow. They are prey animals whose survival depends upon them being able to communicate clearly with each other and need to respond quickly if danger is present. They live in community honoring the balance of leaders/followers, young/old, guides/protectors. They teach us about harmony and connection. There is balance in the herd.
Horses live completely connected to spirit and to mother earth. They live in the moment and have extended fields of energy. This field of energy is acoustical in nature and easily takes in information from all that is around. When we as humans learn how to be more “Horse Like,” by being in this physical world and also deeply connected to the divine or spirit, we too have access to more intuitive information, clear messages about our best directions, and the ability to dance with others and their uniqueness.
